MINNESOTA SET TO WRAP UP 4-GAME HOMESTAND



MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.—Minnesota (2-0) enters this week ranked No. 24 in the Under Armour MCLA Coaches Poll. They will open this weekend with a scrimmage against the University of North Dakota (0-4) this Friday at 8 p.m. Minnesota will then play Nebraska (4-0) on Saturday at 1 p.m. This will be Minnesota’s first meeting against both these teams. Next week, Minnesota will head west for a 4-game road trip.

Quick Notes

Minnesota

  • The attack trio of Eric Fong, Nick Abbott, and Bodhi Engum are all each leading the team with 10 points.

  • Senior midfielder Kyle Kappel notched his second career hat trick in the win against Illinois State.

  • In the past two games, Minnesota’s offense has averaged 52 shots per game, while its defense has held opponents to an average 17 shots per game.

North Dakota

  • The Fighting Hawks are in their first year in the MCLA as a member of the UMLC Division II.

  • Before joining the MCLA, North Dakota competed in the Great Lakes Lacrosse League (GLLL) for six years, compiling an overall recored of 36-26.

Nebraska

  • Brett Willms, a 2015 All-American, leads the team with 18 goals. Willms also just recently recorded his 100th career point against Regis University.

  • Willms is currently 4th in the MCLA in goals per game (4.50), and 11th in points per game (5.50)

  • Rob Mazanec is in his second year as Nebraska’s head coach and has a current overall record of 13-4.

  • The Cornhuskers will play Minnesota State-Mankato Friday night in Faribault, MN before traveling up I-35 to play Minnesota on Saturday.

  • Nebraska is 0-2 when playing in the state of Minnesota.

Fun Fact

The first game between Minnesota and Nebraska would have been on April 21, 2013, however it was cancelled due to Winter Storm Yogi hitting the Plains and Upper Midwest.
