MINNEAPOLIS, Minn–Matt Fox is one of the several senior defenseman who have made up the Gopher’s defensive core over the past several seasons. Son of Philip and Kathy, Matt has two siblings, Julia and Andrew. He will graduate with a degree in materials science and engineering with a minor in chemistry. In 49 career games with the Gophers, Fox has collected 35 groundballs. In the past 2 seasons, he has appeared in all 27 games, while making 7 starts. In 2016, Matt was named an Honorable Mention All-UMLC defenseman.
When and how did you start playing lacrosse?
I picked up a stick my freshman year of high school because it was something new and challenging.
What is your spirit animal?
I’m a red panda because I’m cute and cuddly.
What are your plans after graduation?
I’ll get back to you in a year.
Most memorable moment as a Gopher?
The 100+ hours spent with the boys in the vans while going cross country. Got to know a lot of characters.
Which of your current or former teammates had the greatest impact on you?
Josh Werkmeister and Trent Woodcock. They are always working to better themselves and the team.
Do you have any superstitions? Pregame rituals?
I always have pregame coffee with a shower beforehand. #dryscoops
What has been your favorite class you have taken at Minnesota?
3D Printing and additive manufacturing
What is one piece of advice you have for incoming freshmen?
Never stop working to get better, but don’t forget to enjoy the little things.
Do you have any hidden talents?
I look stunning in a nice pair of jorts.
Favorite sport other than lacrosse?
Soccer
Favorite athlete?
The gunslinger Brett Favre because he made Wrangler jeans look so cool.
Favorite food?
Denver omelette with hash browns.
Favorite movies?
The Lord of the Rings trilogy and Stepbrothers
If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?
I would want the ability to fly to gain a different perspective about the planet we live on.
