MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The men's lacrosse team at the University of Minnesota will now compete in the newly formed Continental Lacrosse Conference (CLC) beginning in spring 2019. The formation of the CLC is the result of a merger between the former Central Collegiate Lacrosse Association (CCLA) and Pioneer Collegiate Lacrosse League (PCLL). The new conference will have a West and East subdivision at the DI level. Minnesota will be in the West subdivision along with Central Michigan, Davenport, Michigan State, Pittsburgh, and Western Michigan. The East subdivision will include Boston College, Buffalo, Connecticut, New Hampshire, and Northeastern.
Minnesota joined the former CCLA in 2017 after being a long-time member of the Upper Midwest Lacrosse Conference. In its two seasons competing in the CCLA, Minnesota has finished 2nd in the conference standings both times qualifying for the conference playoffs. In 2017, they were eliminated by Pittsburgh in the semifinals. In 2018 they defeated Davenport (who was ranked No. 15 at the time) in the semifinals, and fell to the eventual national champions Michigan State in the conference championship.
The top two teams in each subdivision will qualify for the CLC conference playoff, while the champion will earn an automatic qualifier to the National Championship Tournament. You can read more on the formation of the CLC at mcla.us.
