Season Suspended, MCLA Cancels Championship

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.–The men’s lacrosse team at the University of Minnesota has suspended all team practices and events in accordance with school procedures taken in the best interest of public health and safety regarding the COVID-19 outbreak.

The Maroon and Gold had just wrapped up a pair of games in Colorado falling to No. 7 Colorado and No. 23 Colorado State before taking the week off for spring break. Cancelations and suspensions on the season for teams across the nation began mid-week as schools across the nation began taking measures to minimize the COVID-19 outbreak. The University of Minnesota will resume classes online March 18 as in-person instruction has been suspended through at least April 1.

The MCLA has also suspended the season through at least April 6 and has canceled the 2020 National Championship Tournament presented by New Balance Lacrosse. The MCLA will re-evaluate the situation on April 5 to assess if it is safe to resume the remainder of the regular season.

Minnesota’s remaining games against Illinois State, Kansas, Iowa State, Nebraska, have been cancelled while North Dakota State is postponed. More details and updates will follow as the situation continues to develop.
